Certificate and Degree Programs
The Diesel Mechanic major (pdf) is a ‘hands on’ sequence of courses that gives students the opportunity to gain skills in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of diesel equipment. Students learn in the classroom and then put theory into practice in the shop. Courses cover diesel engines as well as supporting systems found in modern heavy equipment.
Students who become qualified mechanics are in demand by companies in agriculture, construction and transportation segments of the local economy. Students are encouraged to gain experience while attending classes by taking a part time job or internship with a local company. This valuable experience along with the class and shop work directs the student toward becoming a highly employable, qualified diesel mechanic.
