Hartnell's 88 -53 victory over Gavilan College keeps the Panthers in the thick of the Coast Conference title chase. The Panthers were paced with 5 players in double figures, lead by 20 by Billy Giles and 16 by Kyle Baird.



The Panthers were lead by 23 points by Freshman Billy Giles. Michael Salazar had an opportunity to win the game with a shot at the buzzer in regulation but came up short. The Panthers play this Saturday December 15 at 5:00pm at Hartnell against the Stanford Club team.


The Panthers took an early lead and where up 8 at the half, controlling the second half by a margin of 15 most of the way. Hartnell was paced by Billy Giles 21 pts and 8 rebs, Michael Salazar add 20 pts.


Hartnell Men's Basketball student/athletes and coaching staff had the opportunity to deliver over 1200 10 lb turkeys and fixings for thanksgiving dinner last night. I wanted to thank everyone that help with donations for this project. It gave our students a great opportunity to serve our community.

Hartnell Men’s Basketball has partnered up with the Interfaith Alliance of Monterey County to deliver Thanksgiving baskets to families in need during the holiday season. This is our fifth year being involved with this project, last year over 850 Turkeys and dinners were delivered in Monterey County. Our student/athletes had the opportunity to deliver 50 of them in the Salinas area.

This year the Interfaith Alliance goal is over 1200 turkeys and fixings. Our student/athletes and coaches have played an important part in getting a donation of a 1000 10lbs-12lbs turkeys donated and over $1000 of canned goods. Pastor Lusk of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Seaside is coordinating these efforts as the Chairman of the group. He has a goal of raising an additional $8,000 to purchase the remaining items needed. This has always been a great opportunity for our Men’s Basketball student/athletes to get involved in the community.

Hartnell Men's Basketball travelled to Yosemite National Park for a class outing. It was a great day in the park.

After playing two years at BYU-Hawaii, in which he played for the NCAA D-2 National Championship losing to Bellarmine University in final seconds and earning his degree, Ryo Tanaka has signed with a profession team in Japan. He continues to be an example of what hard work and dedication can do.

After finishing at Hartnell Ian Hosford continued his playing career at CSUMB, last season Ian returned to Hong Kong on an Internship. During his internship he was asked to join a professional team in Hong Kong. He average 17 ppg. and 9rpg. on one of the lower tier teams in the league. This season has signed with last years league Champion with a 30% increase over last year's salary. Congratulations to both of this former Panthers.

The 2011-12 Hartnell Panthers Men's Basketball team set a goal of providing 650 man hours of community service in Salinas and Monterey County. They not only reached their goal but ended up with 676 hours of community service and engagement from August 1, 2011 to July 31, 2012. We want to thank all the student/athletes, coaching staff and the organizations that allowed us to partner with them to help in our community. This has been a great opportunity for our students to give back and learn the important principle that giving service to others not only blesses their lives, but yours as well.
