Hartnell dominates West Valley

The Hartnell College football team scored the final 49 points of the game Saturday to trounce West Valley 56-21 at Salinas High Stadium.
The win improved the Panthers to 2-6 overall, 2-1 in conference while the Vikings are 1-7, 1-2.
Hartnell trailed 21-14 at halftime before staging perhaps its strongest quarter of the year.
Alfred Ayala of Hartnell made the hit that caused a fumble that was recovered by Adrian Blue and returned to the West Valley 11-yard-line early in the third quarter. Alvin Jelks, who rushed 166 yards, then scored the tying touchdown.
On the next series, Mark Ramos of Hartnell intercepted a pass and returned it to the West Valley 23.
After forcing West Valley to punt on its ensuing drive, the Panthers went on a five-minute march to score again, with Jelks going to final two yards.
Jelks's third touchdown came on a 59-yard run in the final quarter.
Christian Ruelas had six tackles for Hartnell, Kiero Small had five — three for losses — while Ramos had five tackles and Fekita Feki had a sack.
They helped the Panthers hold West Valley to 42 total yards in the second half.
Hartnell faces Gavilan on Saturday at Salinas High Stadium at 6 p.m.
