HARTNELL COLLEGE BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION ‑ "MAKING A DIFFERENCE"
(All Campus)

Speaker, singer, author, and educator Traciana Graves will present "Creating Hope: Celebrating Dreams Throughout History" at Hartnell College on Thursday, February 14th, at 1 p.m. in the Student Center.

Ms. Graves, a dynamic and gifted performer, will present an interactive journey that weaves the stories of key unsung African American heroes with those of everyday people, finding inspiration in the overlooked hopes and dreams of each person's individual and family legacies. Ms. Graves uses song, storytelling, experiential learning, and multimedia to teach and inspire on a broad range of topics designed to empower individuals, encourage civility, strengthen community, and create hope.

The public is invited to this free, annual celebration which begins at 11 a.m., with opening remarks by Salinas mayor Joe Gunter and Hartnell president Dr. Willard Lewallen. Also performing during the celebration are a host of local talent, including a dramatic Mahalia Jackson tribute by Candi Thomas, a presentation from poet and author Josephine Morris, and music from local recording artist Charmaigne Booker-Scott. Soul food and refreshments will be available. The celebration will last until 3 p.m.
