Welcome to the Internet Literacy web site!
This course provides an overview of the wealth of information available through the Internet. Throughout the semester, you will have an opportunity to explore tools and techniques for effective web searching, explore web-based multimedia, participate in collaborative projects, create your own web pages, and use the Internet to perform your own research. You will also take part in dynamic, online discussions.

About Online Instruction
Are you unfamiliar with online learning and web-based instruction? Not every student finds online learning suitable. Some of the variables that affect your success as an online learner include the following:

All lectures and assignments for this class are available online through E-college. You may use the Library media center, computers in the Library TLC during drop in tutorial sessions, or your home computer and home Internet access to participate in the class. If you are using your home computer, be sure it meets these technical requirements.

Mandatory Orientation
A one-time, in-person class orientation session will be held at the Hartnell College Library TLC on Monday, August 15, 4-5 p.m.
During the orientation session, you will be shown how to log onto the class web site, how to retrieve and submit assignments, and how to contact your instructor. This is also an excellent opportunity to meet your classmates and have your questions answered. You are encouraged to find a "study buddy" to work collaboratively on class assignments throughout the semester. Once the class has started, the Library TLC, which is equipped with computers and Internet access, will be available to Internet Literacy students on Mondays, 4-5 p.m. Additional drop in sessions will be arranged once the semester starts. An announcement regarding drop in lab times will be posted in E-college.
What Skills Should I Have to Start This Class?

| You should understand your computer type (PC or Macintosh), be able to create, save, organize, and retrieve files and folders, name and rename files and folders, locate programs and files, open and close folders and files. |
You should be able to start and operate a current word-processing program such as Microsoft Word or Wordperfect, create and format paragraphs and documents, names and save documents as files, save files in different formats such as .rtf, .doc, and .txt. |

Drop In Tutorial Lab Sessions
Weekly drop in sessions will be held at the Library TLC. This classroom is equipped with computers and software. I will be available to provide demonstrations of the skills we will be learning and to offer an informal tutorial lab during which I will be available to provide assistance and answer questions. Weekly drop in sessions will be held at the Hartnell College Library on Mondays, 4-5 p.m.
