Health and Welfare Benefits at Hartnell College

Most Hartnell employees participate in MCSIG, the Monterey County Schools Insurance Group, for health benefits, and the District has designated MCSIG Option III as its "Base" plan. Beginning July 1, 2010, the faculty group will obtain its medical insurance through CalPERS.

A subcommittee of the shared governance committee on Human Resources, Technology, & Facilities began meeting in the 2008-09 school year to explore ways to contain healthcare costs without sacrificing service and coverage. Through the joint efforts of the members of this committee, all employee groups have been able to make informed decisions about employee benefits as a part of a total compensation package. The work of this committee will continue to broaden the options available to Hartnell employees relating to healthcare.

Employees may receive a monthly, District-paid contribution to their Section 125 plan if enrolled in a healthcare plan totaling less than the "Base" plan cost the District would have normally paid according to the employee's classification.
