Hartnell College to Offer Administration of Justice Certificate Online During Spring Semester--First Entire Program to be Offered Online

January 17th, 2005

Hartnell College will offer classes for an administration of justice/ciminal justice certificate online during the spring semester, which begins Monday, Jan. 24.

Hartnell has offered online classes since 2000, but this is the first time an entire program has been available online, according to Sabrina Lawrence Coffelt, Hartnell's Distance Education Administrator.

Students who are able to demonstrate pre-algebra competency may complete all other requirements for the 33-unit administration of justice certificate online. Students seeking an A.A. degree can also complete many of the general education electives online.

The online courses at Hartnell, according to administration of justice instructor Lisa Storm, offer several benefits, including:

  • Transferable criminal justice courses to four-year colleges;
  • Lower costs than at UC or California State University campuses;
  • Convenience for full-time employees or stay-at-home parents;
  • Elimination of students having to commute long distances;
  • User-friendly online environment with 24-hour helpdesk.

    Persons majoring in administration of justice find employment in law enforcement, private security, paralegal or pre-law careers.
