The 15th Annual Adelante Mujer Hispana will be held at Hartnell College on Saturday, March 8, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. "This event provides more than 300 young Latina girls, between the ages of 13 to 18, the opportunity to be motivated by successful Latina mentors from our very own community," said Hartnell's Vice President for Student Services, Celia Barberena.
The girls, hailing from local middle and high schools, will have breakfast, lunch, a fashion show, as well as many workshops. These will include workshops on: college tips; dressing for success; secrets to success; careers in business; nutrition; self improvement; career choices; law enforcement; and careers in teaching.
"These motivational workshops are provided by Latinas from the community in professional roles including teachers, principals, business women and politicians," Barberena said.
Sylvia Miranda, coordinator for the 2003 Adelante Mujer Hispana Conference said, "We are honored to have Dolores Huerta as our keynote speaker. Our goal is to encourage these young women to continue their education."
Barberena added, "We want to equip our young women to successfully confront the challenges they will encounter in the future."
Miranda reminds that the deadline for applications is March 1st. For more information, please contact Miranda at (831) 796-7627.
