The community-wide committee charged with overseeing construction projects at Hartnell College - which will meet Wednesday, March 8 - is accepting applications for a member-at-large.
The group, officially known as the Bond Oversight Committee, will meet at 3 p.m. in room 112 of the Classroom/Administration Building (CAB ).
The public is invited to attend the meeting, according to Harry Gamotan, chair of the committee and president of the Service Employees International Union, Local 817 (Monterey and San Benito counties). Other committee members are Javier Aldape, vice chair, senior financial manager of Fresh Express Farms; Richard Giffin, sales insurance agent and a representative of the Monterey Peninsula Taxpayers Assn.; Joey Lasnik, a consultant to non-profit organizations and a former member of the college district's board of trustees; Donald Young, a board member of the Hartnell College Foundation; and Sean Dendy, Hartnell student.
The committee oversees expenditures regarding the $131 million Measure H bond that was passed by Salinas Valley voters in 2002. Measure H is funding several improvements on the 85-year-old campus.
"The Bond Oversight Committee ensures that no funds are used for salaries or other school operating expenses," explained Hartnell President Edward J. Valeau.
Applications for the vacant member-at-large position must be received by March 22. Interested persons should submit letters outlining their backgrounds to the Office of the President, Hartnell College, 411 Central Ave., Salinas, CA 93901.
Applications will be reviewed by members of the Bond Oversight Committee and referred to the Board of Trustees for appointment.
