Hartnell College Reads "The Grapes of Wrath"

March 7th, 2007

It couldn’t be easier to participate in "The Big Read" at Hartnell College! Just stay on this reading schedule and then drop by on Friday morning or around lunch time to join students, faculty, and staff for a discussion of the reading. The informal, enlightening, and entirely no-pressure discussion groups are led by faculty and club volunteers.

Each week we will announce the Friday book discussion topics. Come to either group or both!
March 2 - Discussion on chapters 1-11 (Hetty Yelland, discussion leader).
March 9 - Discussion on chapters 12-18: Route 66 and The Family Journey West.
March 16 - Discussion on chapters 19-25: California Migrant Camps.
March 23 - Discussion on chapters 26-30 (end): Boxcars and Rising Waters--The Movement Forward.
This week's two book discussions, scheduled for Friday, March 9, are:
(1) "California Stories and the Journey West," led by the Circo Poetry Club.
Time: 11-11:50 a.m. Location: PA 146

(2) Ed Mercurio will lead a discussion on the Dust Bowl conditions: "Changing Climates: Meteorological and Social."
Time: 12-12:50 p.m. Location: VAF 108
On March 15, the film version of "The Grapes of Wrath" will be screened in PA 156 at 7 p.m.
