The Senate of the Associated Students of Hartnell College (ASHC) is sponsoring a forum with Assemblyman Simon Salinas and Senator Jeff Denham planned for Friday, April 4th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Steinbeck Hall at the college. "We have invited them to discuss the proposed state budget cuts to community colleges," said Hartnell's Associated Student Body President Sharolyn Robinson.
"Just prior to the forum we are planning to hold a 'mock funeral' on the lawn in front of the student center," Robinson said. "Our band will play the funeral march; we will give out black arm bands to wear; and we will have mock tombstones representing the programs that are in danger of being cut at Hartnell."
Robinson encourages everyone to participate in the forum and the funeral service. "We want to let our legislators know our students, staff and our community do care about the effect of these proposed budget cuts," she concluded.
