Hartnell College Physics Club Wins National Recognition

March 21st, 2009

The Hartnell College Physics Club was named an Outstanding Chapter of the Society of Physics Students for the 2007-08 school year, it was just announced by the national Society of Physics Students. Hartnell has received this honor for the last three years.

Hartnell’s selection as an outstanding chapter was based on several criteria, including the depth and breadth of the club’s public science outreach efforts and physics research, its participation in community service, and its creation of a scholarship endowment for deserving members to pursue their science studies.

In making the award, the society said, “Hartnell has been a very impressive chapter, especially for being a two-year college. They have done many fantastic things at their college and in their community.”

Hartnell was one of just three chapters honored in California, along with CSU Chico and CCU San Bernardino. There were only two community colleges among the national honorees.

The society is a branch of the American Institute of Physics.
