Thanks to the hard work and generosity of Hartnell College physics students a new scholarship has been established to assist science majors with their education.
The Society of Physics Students (SPS), a student club, collected $10,000 through a variety of fundraising activities over the last several years and has established the endowed scholarship through the Hartnell College Foundation.
The $10,000 endowment will underwrite annual scholarships in the amount of $250-500, according to Jesse Cude, physics instructor and SPS adviser.
SPS president Alex Delrio, an engineering major, said his organization has raised funds through car washes, bake sales and canned food drives. One of our biggest fundraisers, according to Delrio, has been our eight years of highway cleanup before and after the Big Sur Intenational Marathon.
