Hartnell College Hosts Pow Wow

April 18th, 2007

Hartnell College will be the setting for a Native American Pow Wow on Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the main campus at 411 Central Avenue in Salinas.

Now in its third year, the Hartnell College Pow Wow brings together Native American people from many tribes to join together in dancing, singing, renewing friendships, and making new friends. It is open to all people who come in the spirit of friendship.

Gourd dancing is scheduled for 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The grand entry is at 6 p.m. An honor guard from the American Indian Veterans Association will participate, as will drummers and dancers from several local and distant tribes.

The students this year are honoring retiring faculty member Silvia Teodorescu and her husband, Paul, who together have given more than 60 years of service to the students of Hartnell.

Food will be available for purchase.

The pow wow is coordinated by Intertribal Peoples, the Native American Student Group, and by Hartnellís Center for International and Intercultural Education. For more information, please contact Patric Aledo at (831) 776-9266 or patricaledo@yahoo.com.
