Hartnell Collegeís dancers and choreographers will pony up their spring dance recital on Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12, at 7 p.m. in the main theatre of the Performing Arts Facility at Hartnell College, 411 Central Avenue in Salinas.
This yearís recital, "The West," will focus on the West as a state of mind--exploring the unknown, taking risks, and seeking adventure. According to dance instructor Megan Morais, the dance styles represented will include ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, ballroom, Latin, hip hop, belly, and gypsy dance.
The first part of the recital will showcase student choreographers and guest performers. Guest artists include The Gams Afoot, performing ballroom and Latin dances; Salinas All Stars, performing hip hop and jazz dances; and The Antique Moving Company, performing tap.
The second part of the recital features Hartnell dancers and The Antique Moving Company dancing a story with all the western trappings: vaqueros, love, death, and tumbleweeds. The engaging story and choreography traverse time and dance styles.
Admission is free and open to the public.
