Hartnell College Plans Career and Employment Fair for Wednesday, May 18
May 9, 2005
Hartnell College's Hands-On Career and Employment Fair - which is open to high school and college students as well as members of the community - will be held on campus Wednesday, May 18. The free event, a joint effort of several organizations, will be held at the College Center and adjacent quad area from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The fair has two major purposes, according to Denise Harris-Moss, Hartnell's director of career and workforce development. Our fair, she says, will give attendees the opportunity to learn more about a wide range of career fields as well information about current job opportunities. About 60 organizations and employers will participate in the fair, which is expected to attract more than 1,000 individuals, said Harris-Moss.
Some of the confirmed fair participants include the U.S. Armed Forces, KSBW TV, Wells Fargo, Jack in the Box, Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, KDON Radio, the Salinas Fire Department, Chevrolet of Salinas and the Monterey County Health Department. There will be hands-on demonstrations of several career fields, including massage therapy, cosmetology and cooking. The Seaside Fire Department will demonstrate its Jaws of Life, and there will be a nail driving competition by carpenter apprentices.
