Hartnell College Plans Six Spring Concerts

The music and dance departments of Hartnell College will celebrate spring with six concerts during May and June.

The public is cordially invited to attend the programs, according to Carl Christensen, Hartnell music instructor. The concerts are free, but donations will be accepted. No tickets are required.

Below are the concert dates and information:
Friday, May 12 - "A Spring Choral Concert" - The Hartnell College Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by Sandy Rudo, perform "Amor de Mi Alma," a piece based on a 16th century Spanish love poem. Included will be a movement from Vivaldi's "Gloria," folk songs and many pieces from Disney classics. 7:30 p.m., main stage, Performing Arts Facility.

Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20 - "Discovery" - A performance by Hartnell Dancers and Choreographers, Megan Morais, director. Guest artists include The Antique Moving Company, Dance Arts' Tap Troupes, The Gams Afoot and the Everett Alvarez Dancers. 8 p.m., main stage, Performing Arts Facility.

Sunday, May 21 - "Spring Around the World: Music About Places"-The Hartnell College Community Chorus, directed by Kristen Thompson, present " Geographical Fugue" by Ernst Toch, selections from "Oklahoma," and Irish favorites. Guest performers: The Cannery Rogues Barbershop Quartet. 2 p.m., recital hall (room 125), Performing Arts Facility.

Tuesday, May 23 - "Guelaguetza! - Traditional Music of Oaxaca, Mexico" - The Hartnell College Symphonic Band, directed by Carl Christensen, has initiated an exchange program with the band of the state of Oaxaca and will present the area's traditional music for the first time in our community. 7:30 p.m., main stage, Performing Arts Facility.

Thursday, May 25 - "From the New World" - The Hartnell College Symphony Orchestra, directed by Carl Christensen, will present the music of Dvorák, Wagner, Grieg, and Tchaikovsky. 7:30 p.m., main stage, Performing Arts Facility.

Thursday, June 1 - "Spring Jazz" - The Hartnell Collee Jazz Ensemble, directed by Carl Christensen, will perform traditional jazz, Latin, blues, pop and rock. 8 p.m., recital hall (room 125) Performing Arts Facility.

The $1 campus parking fee requires four quarters.
