Hartnell College Music Department Presents Free Spring Concerts

The Hartnell College Music Department is pleased to present four free Spring Concerts to the community. All concerts will be in the Performing Arts Building on the college’s main campus in Salinas.

A SPRING CHORAL CONCERT on Friday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m., on the Main Stage will feature the HARTNELL CHOIR & CHAMBER SINGERS, Sandy Rudo, conductor, and Barbara Vela, accompanist.  The program will include “Sicut Cervus” by Palestrina, hits from “Mamma Mia,” selections from “Beauty and the Beast,” and traditional favorites such as “River Jordan,” “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel,” and “Danny Boy.” There is an open dress rehearsal/concert at 10:15 a.m. on the same day.

A POLYNESIAN EVENING on Sunday, May 20, at 7 p.m. on the Main Stage will present the HARTNELL COLLEGE HAWAIIAN MUSIC CLASS, William Faulkner, director.  The class will present “REKA,” a pan-Polynesian revue with music and dance from Hawai’i, Tahiti, the Tuamotu atolls, and Aotearoa, featuring Te Mau ‘Oviri, Yamamoto Halau Ohana, and Huli Ahahae mai Ia’u.

SPRING JAZZ on Monday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall (PA 125) will feature the HARTNELL COLLEGE JAZZ ENSEMBLE, Dr. Carl Christensen, director.  The evening will include classic swing, jazz, and Latin music.

FROM CLASSICAL TO MICHAEL JACKSON on Thursday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. on the Main Stage, will present the HARTNELL COLLEGE ORCHESTRA, Dr. Carl Christensen, conductor.  The program will begin with “Finlandia” by Sibelius and two movements from the “Organ Symphony” by Saint-Saens.  The second half of the program will include symphonic arrangements of hits by Michael Jackson and themes from video games such as “Halo” and “Kingdom Hearts” accompanied by video projections from these games.  The dancers of “Dance Workshop 10” will perform with the Michael Jackson selections.

The concerts are free and open to the public, though donations may be requested.  No tickets are required.  Please park in the parking structure located at 411 Central Avenue.
