After interviewing three finalists for the position of Superintendent/President of Hartnell College this week, the Hartnell College Board of Trustees named two finalists today. Those finalists are Dr. Cecilia Cervantes, current president of College of Alameda, and Dr. Phoebe Helm, interim/president of Hartnell College and former president of Truman College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
Seven representatives from Hartnell will conduct site visits of the campuses of the finalists. That team will consist of three Board members, one representative from the College’s administration, and one representative from each of the college’s senates: academic senate, classified senate, and student senate. The four college groups will meet to select a representative from their ranks. The interim/superintendent will not be involved in that process.
The site visit team will travel to College of Alameda and Truman College. At each campus, the team will meet with faculty, staff, students, board members, and elected officials who are familiar with the finalists’ work.
“We are excited to move forward to choose the best leader for our community,” said Board Chair Kari Valdes. “We have two excellent candidates to choose from and are hopeful that this process will result in a president being in place by July 1, in line with our original schedule.”
