Glenn R. Hanley, formerly a physical education administrator and athletic director at community colleges in Silicon Valley, has been named Hartnell College's new dean of physical education, health education, recreation and director of athletics.
He was appointed to the position by the college district's board of trustees on Wednesday, June 19, and will begin his new responsibilities in August. Hanley replaces Marv Grim, who retired this month after 26 years at Hartnell.
Hanley comes to Hartnell with 27 years of experience in higher education, according to Sallie Savage, Hartnell's director of human resources.
Currently an administrator with the health science department at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Hanley is no stranger to California. He was dean of physical education and athletics at De Anza College in Cupertino from 1992 to 1997. Before that, he was athletic director at Mission College in Santa Clara. <
"Hartnell," said Savage, "is fortunate to have hired Dr. Hanley, and we look forward to a long and productive relationship."
He received B.A. through Ph.D. degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.
