Hartnell College's Community Chorus Seeks Singers

July 26th, 2005

You don't have to sing for your supper to be a member of Hartnell College's Community Chorus. You just have to like to sing.

This fall the group's conductor will be Kristen Thompson, a well-known local musician who is completing a master's degree in choral conducting at San Jose State University. She performs locally as a percussionist with the orchestras of the Western Stage in Salinas and the Forest Theater in Carmel.

Thompson urges adults of any age or level of experience to audition for the group, which will meet Mondays at 7 p.m., beginning August 15, in room 146 of the Performing Arts Building.

"The Community Chorus," Thompson says, "combines exposure to an endless variety of choral music with performance experience, camaraderie, and a lot of fun learning the fundamentals of vocal music."

The group usually presents two concerts a year. A hand-picked "chorus within a chorus" gives more experienced singers a chance to work on and perform a few more difficult a cappella selections.
