Hartnell College Remembers: Eleventh Anniversary of September 11 Attacks

September 6th, 2012

In honor of the 2,973 people who died in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Hartnell College will host a Remembrance Ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sept. 11 in Steinbeck Hall in the Student Center at Hartnell College.

“This is a time of reflection and gratitude,” said Dr. Willard Lewallen, superintendent/president of Hartnell.  “This ceremony will honor our fallen heroes--those who risked their lives for others--in the attacks on New York, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We honor the first responders and military personnel who courageously carried out their duty that day, and we will never forget the men, women, and children who were tragically taken away from us.”

The ceremony will commence with the national anthem sung by Hartnell music student Ashley Johnson.  The ceremony will continue with remembrance remarks from Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue; Sam Mazza, fire chief, Salinas; and Dr. Willard Lewallen, superintendent/president Hartnell College.

This event is open to the public. Active and retired military personnel, firefighters, and other first responders are invited to attend in uniform.
