Edward J. Valeau, president of Hartnell College, was recently named chair of the Committee on Global Education for the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the primary advocacy organization for the nation's 1,100 community colleges and their 10 million students.
As chair, he will serve as one of the organization's major proponents for more vitalized international programs for community colleges, including the exchange of faculty and students.
Valeau, who is beginning his 10th year as Hartnell president, is a longtime member of the AACC and currently sits on the organization's board of directors, Commission on International/Intercultural Education and Presidents' Academy.
On the state level, he is actively involved with the Community College League of California and has served as chair and vice chair of the organization's Legislative and Finance Commission, which helps to set policy for the state's two-year colleges. He also serves on the board of directors of the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges. In addition, he is president of the California Colleges for International Education.
