A barbecue and concert to benefit hurricane victims in the gulf coast will be held at Hartnell College on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Both events are open to the public.
The barbecue will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. in the quad area adjacent to the campus' College Center. Tickets, available at the event, are $7.
The Chicano All-Stars, a Salinas band, will headline the benefit concert, which begins at 7 p.m. in Steinbeck Hall of the College Center. Another Salinas band, Red Beans and Rice, also will perform at the concert. Tickets, available at the door, are $10.
The barbecue and concert are two of several campus-wide fundraising efforts being held to assist hurricane victims.
The college, according to Irene Rasmussen, student activities coordinator, has pledged to raise $10,000 as part of a statewide community college effort developed by Hartnell President Edward J. Valeau and two other college leaders.
Hartnell's Associated Students and Classified Senate, composed of non-teaching staff members, are co-sponsoring the college's relief efforts.
Each of California's 109 community colleges is raising $10,000 for a total of $1.09 million.
