Former Hartnell College Administrator Called 'Friend to All' by President Valeau

October 19th, 2005

TJ Owens, who recently served as interim dean of physical education and health/athletic director at Hartnell College, yesterday (Oct. 18) was called "a friend to all students, faculty and staff at the college" by President Edward J. Valeau.

Owens died Monday (Oct. 17) after suffering a massive stroke.

In a memo to Hartnell's faculty and staff, Valeau said it was "with great sadness and a heavy heart" that he had to inform the campus community of Owens' death.

Valeau said "Dr. Owens' vision and wisdom will be sorely missed. He served Hartnell well."

Owens was scheduled to return to Hartnell this week to serve in another interim administrative position.

Services for Owens will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Community Church, 8095 Kelton Drive, Gilroy.

Owens resided in Gilroy and was a former administrator at Gavilan College.

Hartnell and Gavilan colleges will play football on Saturday, Oct. 22. The teams will play tribute to Owens before the game begins.
