December Concerts at Hartnell College to Make Your Holidays Bright

Hartnell College kicks off its month of concerts with a special orchestral performance on Thursday, December 6, that will transport you to Italy. The symphony orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Carl Christensen, will play Italian classics by Verdi, Mascagni, and Respighi, along with traditional holiday favorites. Your musical journey will be accompanied by digital projections of colorful scenes from Florence, Tuscany, and Rome. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. on the main stage theater in the Performing Arts Building on Hartnell’s main campus in Salinas.

Hartnell’s Symphonic Band will be joined by special guest artists from the Washington Union School District for its Tuesday, December 11, international band festival. Enjoy traditional band music from France, Sweden, Jamaica, Italy, and Russia, along with traditional holiday favorites. The jazz band also will make an appearance at this concert, directed by Dr. Carl Christensen, that begins at 7:30 p.m. on the main stage.

Join the Hartnell College Choir & Chamber Singers, under the direction of Sandy Rudo, for Magical Music of the Season: A Winter Choral Concert on Friday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. on the main stage. The choirs will perform traditional holiday favorites like Carol of the Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, along with other selections that include Sinner Man, Believe, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Chattanooga Choo Choo, and All That Jazz. An open rehearsal will be held on Friday morning at 10:15 a.m.

The Hartnell College Community Chorus will present A Holiday Choral Celebration on Sunday, December 16, at 2 p.m. on the main stage. The performance will feature classical and popular choral favorites and traditional music of the season, under the direction of Robin Williams.

The series concludes on Tuesday, December 18, at 7:30 p.m. when the Hartnell College Jazz Ensemble presents Winter Jazz! Dr. Carl Christensen directs this jazz ensemble in classic swing, jazz, and rock in the Hartnell Recital Hall, Room 125 of the Performing Arts Facility.
