As part of Hartnell College's 85th anniversary celebration, the college will honor graduates of its Early Childhood Education (ECE) program on Friday, Sept. 23.
The invitation-only recognition banquet will begin at 6 p.m. in Steinbeck Hall of the Hartnell's College Center, according to Jeanne Hori-Garcia, ECE instructor and chair of the dinner committee.
"Our event," she said, "will acknowledge our graduates as 'Stars of ECE' who have made a difference in the lives of children and their families as teachers, caregivers and supervisors."
Several representatives from city, state and community agencies also will be honored as "Champions of Children" for their many contributions to the early childhood education field and to families and children of our community, Hori-Garcia continued.
Hartnell's ECE program, which began in the late 1970s, offers certificate and A.A. degree programs in the skills and knowledge necessary to become teachers, teacher assistants, or supervisors of programs for children from birth to five years old. Some graduates have continued their education to become program directors, elementary school teachers, principals, and college instructors.
