Edward Valeau, president of Hartnell College, recently was elected to the board of directors of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the primary advocacy organization for the nation's 1,100 community colleges.
Valeau, now in his eighth year as Hartnell's president, is one of only three California community college administrators named to the 32-member board. (California has more than 100 community colleges.)
As a member of the policy-making board, he will sit on the AACC's Government and Policy Commission and the International Education Committee.
Valeau is a longtime member of the AACC and has served on the organization's Commission on Research and Presidents' Academy.
On the national level, he also serves on the American Council on Education's Institutional Effectiveness Committee. At the state level, he is actively involved with the Community College League of California and has served as chair and vice chair of the organization's Legislative and Finance Commission, which helps to set policy for the state's community colleges. He also presently serves as president of Community Colleges for International Education, a statewide organization.
