The community is cordially invited to come to Hartnell College on Wednesday, November 6th to attend the 17th annual Transfer Day/College Night. "This event draws numerous admission representatives from California and out of state colleges and universities. They provide information about their services and major programs; housing, financial aid/scholarship and transfer admission to four-year institutions," said Ruth McMullen, Director of Counseling and Matriculation, at Hartnell College.
The Transfer Day program, held from 9 a.m. to noon, is designed for students at Hartnell College who are preparing to transfer to four-year college or universities. The College Night, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., is attended by parents and students from the district's 18 high schools. Hartnell College counseling faculty will provide information to high school seniors transitioning to their local community college.
"We usually have over 70 colleges and universities represented including Hawaii Pacific University, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, Fresno and San Jose State Universities,College of Notre Dame and many others," said McMullen. "This year the theme is 'Inspiring Transitions' which expresses the many opportunities provided through continuing education and the positive effect it has in changing one's life," she said.
Parent information workshops will be held in English and in Spanish and financial aid workshops will have translators available. Counselor for Disabled Students Programs and Services, Wayne Davis said, "We will have a booth to explain Hartnell College services that are available to anyone with special needs."
McMullen concluded, "The event's philosophy is to inspire and prepare students and their parents for the transition that comes when the student enters college. Transfer Day/College Night is always well-attended and is an event that parents, as well as students throughout the Salinas Valley look forward to each year,"
