India's Cultural Heritage, Contemporary Concerns, and Challenges for the New Millennium.

The Fulbright Scholarship Program

The Fulbright Program aims to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries, through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills.

In June and July 2003, I had the opportunity to participate in a Fulbright-Hays sponsored program to India entitled "India's Cultural Heritage, Contemporary Concerns, and Challenges for the New Millennium." The program sought to explore the religious, social, political, education, and economic circumstances of India.

Along with twelve outstanding faculty from the nation's community colleges, we attended lectures, visited prestigious colleges and universities, visited such remarkable sites as the Ghangis River, the Alagrat Caves, and the splendid and magnificent Taj Mahal.

This experience will serve as a reminder of the need to support International education in our community colleges, encourage administrative and faculty participation in programs like the Fulbright, and the requirement that we all serve as good will ambassadors to spread the word that we will live in a globally depended society.
