Adaptive Physical Education
The Hartnell Adaptive Physical Education Program is an inclusionary program for the adult student with a health impairment or disabling condition. Our unique fitness program features an individualized program based on the student’s disability assessment and their short and long term goals. Incorporated into all classes are enjoyable positive experiences to enhance self-image and social interaction.
The primary goals are to increase functionality, pain control and independence for a healthy mind and body. Our Cardiac Wellness Program is designed to continue the restorative cardiovascular program initiated by their physician or therapist. Cardiac wellness, muscular strength, flexibility, stress management, agility, balance, neuro-muscular coordination, and specific exercisetechniques are tailored to each student specific needs.

All of the components of a fitness program are taught, including the basic principles of warm-up/cool-down exercises, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility/range -of-motion, strength training, posture, body mechanics, balance, coordination, basic nutrition guidelines and stress reduction techniques. Available equipment includes treadmills, stationary bicycle, recumbent bicycle, weights and much more.
